Finish to Begin Again

The 2011 CrossFit Open Sectionals are finally FINISHed! Six weeks of anticipating, repeating, preparing, and gaming WOD's. It's been quite a ride, to say the least. I get a bittersweet feeling as I reflect on my 11.1-11.6 performances. I've faced challenges weekly, starred muscle ups in the eye, ripped my hands mid-WOD, panicked, gasped for air, and became enemies with overhead squats. I walk away from this disappointed, yet excited. I know I did the best I could in each WOD, giving all I could give, and leaving blood, sweat, and possibly tears, on the floor. I knew I had weaknesses, and I came face to face with many of them, some defeated me, some I defeated. The exciting part is I come out of this knowing I have so much more to give. I am not even close to reaching my full potential, because I am still learning, growing, and getting stronger to be where I want to be as a CrossFit athlete.

The key, in my eyes, to getting to that top-notch level, will take time and patience. I don't expect to be up there with Carey Kepler or Kristan Clever or whoever just yet. But setting goals, and putting in hard work along with a touch of desire and motivation will be a few ingredients to help get me there. I have a long road ahead - it may take a year, maybe even two - but I expect a lot of ups and downs as well as potential set back or challenges. But as my friend Joel Osteen says: “every setback is a setup for a greater comeback!” These words of motivation are what inspire me. It keeps me on my path, towards success and achievement and toward fulfilling that big 'ol dream!

So now I prepare to BEGIN AGAIN. And I begin to PREPARE AGAIN. For many things, for #Regionals, for strength, for a focused mind, for a determined heart. A challenging road is a head, which to me is more of an exciting road. So bring on the HSPU, ring dips, T2B, pistols, OHS, it's time to face my fears.

  1. I am so proud of you Caroline, I am amazed at how far you have come since you left college station. I wish I could have been there saturday to rip my hands with you :-) but I had to go to Traditions Golf Club for an event that day during 11.6. I wish you the best at regionals, it will be a "Games" in itself. As you continue on this journey you will motivate many people - friends, clients, family, etc. You must continue to motivate yourself as well, if I were to guess you are motivated by competition. But also learn to motivate yourself in other ways, this will get you there.
